What It Means to Be a Jr Cheer Coach
Coaching in the AJSA Cheer program is both meaningful and rewarding. Our coaches play a vital role in shaping young athletes—not just in their cheerleading abilities, but in their confidence, teamwork, and personal growth.
At its core, Jr Cheer coaching is about creating a positive, inclusive environment where every athlete feels encouraged, safe, and supported. You’ll teach fundamental cheer skills while also promoting discipline, self-esteem, and respect—on and off the field.
We’re looking for coaches who bring genuine enthusiasm for working with kids and a passion for helping them grow—not just as athletes, but as people. While prior cheer experience is helpful, it’s your energy, communication skills, and commitment to AJSA’s values that matter most.
Safety is always a top priority. Coaches are expected to follow cheerleading best practices and remain attentive to the well-being of all participants. Just as important is your ability to work collaboratively—with athletes, parents, fellow coaches, and the AJSA organization—to create a unified and uplifting experience for everyone involved.
When you step into this role, you're doing more than coaching—you’re mentoring, leading, and helping young athletes discover their confidence and their voice.
2025 CHEER COACHES
Join the AJSA Cheer Coaching Team
The Andover Junior Sports Association is proud to welcome enthusiastic, positive-minded volunteers to coach in our Jr Cheer program. This is more than leading chants and cheers—it’s about building confidence, character, and teamwork in every young athlete.
While prior cheer or dance experience is a plus, it’s not required. We’re looking for coaches who bring energy, patience, and a strong sense of responsibility. Our cheer coaches help create a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment where every participant can learn, grow, and feel proud to be part of the team.
Just as important as working with athletes is the ability to foster a supportive, respectful team culture. We expect our coaches to lead by example—not just for the cheerleaders, but for parents and fellow volunteers as well. Gossip, negativity, or undermining the program’s values have no place here. We’re all working together to give these athletes the best possible experience.
As an AJSA Cheer Coach, you'll play a key role in teaching foundational cheer skills, promoting teamwork, and modeling integrity and sportsmanship—on and off the field. You’ll have the full support of our board and fellow coaches, along with guidance to help you succeed in the role.
If you're committed to showing up, working together, and making a positive difference in the lives of young athletes—we’d love to have you on the squad.
